Getting Your Links To Open In A New Window

Did you know that when you create a link on your blog, you can format it so that when someone clicks on it, it will open in a new window? This will allow your readers to visit the linked site without ever leaving your blog.

To do this, you have to change the HTML code of every one of the links that you would like to have open in a new window. It sounds a little much, but it's really rather simple.

Here's what you would do if you wanted a link in your post to open in a new window:

1. Create a link by clicking on the link button and typing in the URL you wish to link to. For more information on how to create a link within a post, click here.

Let's pretend your link looks like this:

Click here to visit Sneaky Momma Blog Design.

2. Click on the 'Edit HTML' tab.
This is what the above sentence looks like in HTML:

Click <a "href=http://sneakymommablogdesign.blogspot.com/"
>here</a> to visit Sneaky Momma Blog Design.

3. Insert target="_blank" right after the URL and the ".

Click <a href="http://sneakymommablogdesign.blogspot.com/"
target="_blank">here</a> to visit Sneaky Momma Blog Design.
4. Publish your post
5. Test the link. If it opens in a new window, congratulations! If not, try again. :)

The above instructions can also be applied to links in other areas of your blog as well.

Happy Blogging!

This is a great tip. Thanks for sharing.....and thanks for being so supportive on my blog. I love that you sneaked us over to your blog design page...i have such tunnel vision that i missed this page before. I will have to do a blog scavenger hunt game and include this in it.....maybe you'll play? still working on the details....
