Blogger Etiquette

It took me forever to figure out how to make my blog user friendly. It's something I'm still working on. For example, I've found that I can attract more readers by eliminating slow-loading widgets on my blog. I've also found that I can add things (links to other bloggers, for example) that make my blog a fun place to be.

A great blogging friend of mine named Jenners wrote an awesome post called Goldilocks and the Three Bloggers. I would love for you to check it out! It is chock full of light-hearted blogger etiquette advice. It is hands down the best post I've ever read dealing with this sensitive subject. As you read, you will probably see something that you can do differently to increase your readership. You may even cringe a little as you discover that some of the things that you have on your blog may be undesirable to others. I know I did. :)

Take from it what you will. Of course, there's no right or wrong thing to do when it comes to your OWN blog. Every blog is unique, which is what makes the blogging world such a great place to hang out. I wish I would have had access to the information in the following story when I started blogging, which is why I wanted to share it with you. Perhaps I would have done some things a little bit differently. :)

Just an additional point about certain colours being easier ont he eyes. Fors some people higher contrats such as black text on a white background can make it harder to read. Its often thought now that an off white sandy coloured background works a bit better than plain white. Ok I have the white background/black text issue but I still use it cos I know people like it.....just wanted to give you some useless information LOL. On the font side of things - I LOVE the century gothic font as being dyslexic it can be harder to read some of the fancy fonts that people use.....and being bigger does help :)

I have been wondering about the music thing. I friend of mine told me that auto music play was kind of bad ettiquette.

i love having music on my pages... is there a smaller player that would fit on my sidebar so people who want the music don't have to scroll all the way to the bottom of the page to turn it on?

I know for awake, many of them listen to it for the worship music... any thoughts?

I could really use some help with my header. I tried scrapblog to no avail...I have also tried a couple other things...it never looks right and I can't seem to add text. Maybe we could discuss something? I hope to hear from you soon. Thanks.

Great post. I've been doing a few annoying things apparently:) The music thing is the only one I'll keep though. I figure if they don't like it they can turn down the volume right?? How hard is that:)

Wonderful post! I already knew everything EXCEPT for posting too often (I do anywhere from once a day to three times a week). I will modify my blog postings to three times a week; a relief to my readers and to me! LOL

Thanks for sharing!

This is a great post and Jenners is so right. There was a blog I really enjoyed until she changed her color scheme. The ever so light orange print on orange background is now almost unreadable. Boo hoo, I miss her blog but I just can't read it!

OMG, I can learn so much from your blog. I love this Goldie post. It was adorable and now I am ashamed of my blog. Lol.

This was great! I'm thankful that I (in general) don't have many offending items. Pingdom helped me identify a time sucker. Oh, and now I'm off to remove the word verification thingy.

I feel so ashamed of my old blog now, the color scheme was so busy it was hard to concentrate. Lots of useless widgets taking up load time.
No music though.

My new one has music but that's the only offending item.
I love both of your blogs.

Well, I design my blog for me.
If people stopping by don't like it, so be it. On the other hand, my followers are faithful and enjoy the difference.
There is nothing I find more boring than blog after blog after blog that all look alike, with no personal expression. If it's business that's different.
Sad! There is so much art-wise than can express the person behind the blog.....

Thanks to spammers I had to turn my word verification back on. Tagged 4-5 posts in one sitting. Thankfully I was able to delete their posts.
