Cool Commenters Gadget

I stumbled upon a cool little comment widget not too long ago. Check it out!

What I like best about it is that it uses the colors of your blog. It's super easy to install. I like the clean look of it. No bells and whistles, just the list (and links) of the people who comment the most on my blog. You can also customize the heading to say whatever you wish.

I think it's a nice little way of saying, "Thank you for commenting on my blog."

You can get this widget by clicking here. Have fun! :)

Fun Fonts For Your Blog

I recently stumbled upon an amazing font site. The fonts are adorable and absolutely perfect for decorating headers and other design elements. They are free for personal use, too!

There is a simple tutorial on their site that will walk you through exactly how to download and install these fonts on your computer. Once the desired fonts are downloaded and installed, they will magically appear in several of your programs, including Photoshop, Word, and Paint. I was so amazed by how easy it was to put these fonts on my computer and use them. Way too cool!

Click here to check out the fonts! Here are a few that I've enjoyed playing around with:
Make sure you check out their terms if you are unsure of what constitutes 'personal use'.

A word of caution: If you use these fonts to replace the fonts that Blogger provides for use in your posts, they will only be visible to others who have these fonts installed on their computer. I suggest sticking to the basic fonts that everyone has when writing your posts.

Have fun! :)

Blogger Nav Bar

Did you know that you can change the color of the bright blue navigation bar that runs across the top of Blogger blogs? It's so incredibly simple to do.

To change the color:

1. Go to your blog's layout page.

2. Find the thin, bright blue element labeled "Navbar" that sits above your header element.

3. Click on edit and change the color to your liking. Save.

If we could only get Blogger to add a pink one. Now that would be something!

Email: Show Yours In Your Profile!

Many of you are already aware of the benefits of attaching an email address to your profile. A quick looksie through my followers shows me that many of you have not taken advantage of this way cool feature of Blogger. Email can be a simple form of communication in the blogging world. It doesn't have to be all comments. :)

Why should I show my email address on my profile?

For starters, a lot of people prefer to respond to comments through email. For those of you looking for friendship, enabling your email is the way to go. You can get to know people a lot better through short emails than by commenting back and forth. It is also a lot easier to answer questions in an email than in one's comment section. Also, someone may ask you a question that you would like to respond to that you would rather answer privately.

Isn't sharing your email address on your profile unsafe?

It is if you use an email address that reveals your personal information! I would suggest creating a new (free!) Yahoo/Gmail email address. This will ensure privacy, as well as separate your comments from the rest of your email. Ex: I have an email address specifically set up for blog correspondence. My real name is not attached to this email address anywhere. All things blog related go to and from this email address. Makes life a whole lot simpler, especially when you're dealing with a lot of comments.

How do I show my email address on my profile?

1. Go to dashboard-->edit profile.

2. Scroll down until you see 'Email Address' under the 'Identity' heading. Refer to the area circled in red above. Enter in your blog correspondence email address. Notice that this will not change the address you log in as, it will simple be the email address that bloggers will be able to contact you at.

3. Scroll back up and check the box next to 'Show my email address' (circled in blue).

4. Save.

What on earth are you talking about??? Tell me again why I should do this. I don't get it!

Check out this comment from Jenners in my inbox. Notice the "from" field (circled in red). It lists the person's name and shows their email address, if they have selected 'Show my email address' in their profile. Then you can simply hit reply (circled in orange) to respond to that comment as an email. Pretty cool, huh? If they have not elected to show their email address in their profile, then their email address is shown as noreply-comment@blogger.com. Replies sent to this email address do not go to their intended recipient.

How can I get my comments delivered to my email inbox?

1. Go to dashboard-->settings-->comments.

2. Scroll all the way down to the bottom to where it says 'Comment Notification Email'.

3. Enter your blog correspondence email address in the box.

4. Click on Save Settings.

Enjoy the blogging world as you never have before!

*Special thanks to Jenners over at Life with a Little One and More for letting me use her email for demonstration! :)

Important Changes To This Blog

There have been recent changes in the Sneaky Household. I have been presented with the opportunity to work within my home to supplement our income and I'm jumping on it. Woo hoo!

What this means to you is that I no longer have oodles of spare time that is required to write out advanced blog tips. Advanced tips take several hours to create, as I like to make sure I understand every aspect of them before passing them on to others. The advanced tips that have already been written will remain on this blog. I just won't be creating any new ones any time soon. This includes tips on navigation bars, favicons, label clouds, etc.

If you'll noticed over in my sidebar, there is place where you can search my favorite blog design sites. This is not a search of the entire www, but simply a search through the posts of these blogs. If you cannot find the help you need on my blog, please search elsewhere. When searching for help, be concise. If you need help creating a navigation bar, enter in 'navigation bar'. You will be taken to the tips that helped me create mine! :)

I will continue to post new tips every Tuesday, mostly labeled 'intermediate' and 'beginner'. Keep in mind that these tips are labeled beginner and intermediate based on the skill level needed to implement the tips. Advanced bloggers can, and most often will, benefit from beginner and intermediate level tips.

If you need help with a tip, click here. Each and every tip that I have written has been successfully implemented by several bloggers of varying levels of expertise. If you run into a road block, start over and follow the directions EXACTLY.

Best of luck as you continue your quest for blog perfection!
